Dinosaurs - a step back in time.

"A single moment can change history..."

To celebrate the release of Disney Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur", I have created a series of dinosaur related printable activities to engaged the little dino lover in all your students.

Dinosaurs are an exciting topic for young children as they invoke our sense of fascination and imagination due the their size, variety and the fact that they are no longer around! They put our place into this world into perspective, and provide students with an understanding of evolution and extinction throughout time.

Dinosaur Find-a-Words
This FREEBIE includes 3 find-a-words of varying difficulty with words that relate to dinosaurs and link with my Dinosaur Word Wall product.

This product is perfect as a revision activity, fast finisher task or casual teacher resource.

Dinosaur Match Up
Matching games can aid in the development of children's memory and executive functioning skills, as well as their fine motor, gross motor and social interaction skills.

This activity requires students to match cards drawn from a pile to the images on their playing board. The first to fill up their board with matching cards WINS!

Dinosaur Thematic Word Wall
Give your little writers some extra support by creating a dinosaur thematic word wall. Place these cards where they are easily accessible so that students always have the correct spelling of words they may need - paleontologist is a tricky one to always remember!

With 46 word and picture cards, this dinosaur themed word wall will also be a source of inspiration and provide students with ideas for things to write about.

Dinosaur Creative Writing Activities Pre-K-Year 2
This creative writing pack includes a variety of activities suitable for Kindergarten through to Year 2 students. The activities vary in difficulty and have been created to guide students through making up their own stories - use the 'Create a Sentence' activities with your kindergarten students, and move on to the different forms of writing tasks as students develop their creative writing skills.

Dinosaur Museum Visit
Dinosaurs once walked the very same earth we do... and to learn more about them what better way is there then to visit your local museum?
This booklet can be printed, cut out and bound together using ribbon or twine and be used when exploring the dinosaurs at the museum. Aimed at 6-8 year olds, this booklet encourages students to find and show the following information during their museum visit:
- biggest, smallest, longest and tallest dinaosaur
- show the difference between a meat and plant eaters teeth
- a nest of dinosaur eggs
- the names of various dinosaurs
- what their favourite dinosaur is
- describe what they did during their visit.

You can also get some great printables and online activities from the Disney Pixar website to compliment the movie. You can download some great colouring-in pages, a memory game, a hexaflexagon and an adventure game.

Check out the movie trailer to see what all the hype is about (even adults will want to get in on the action!):

“The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo (voice of Raymond Ochoa) makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.

Make sure you check back in to my TpT and DBT store as I'll be adding some more dinosaur related activities over the coming months!

Five for Friday: 12th December, 2015

Happy Friday Followers!!!! I hope you've had a good week! Me - well, let's just say it's been one of big decisions, many sleepless nights and intuitive decision making! More about that in a future post, here's what happened this week:

The end of last week saw me back in the Primary classroom ("Oh how I missed thee!") - funnily enough, with students I had taught previously when they were in year 2 - now in year 5!!! While we did a little of the work left by the teacher, I was informed that as it was edging towards the end of the year that I was welcome to do any activities I had brought along with me - so I did!

We ended up using this tutorial, which i put up on the SmartBoard. They simply followed the instructions off the board, outlined in black texta and used coloured pastel crayons to add colour! Simple Dimple! If you want an activity to fill in time or keep your kiddies amused, this is great! (I'm just sorry we didn't get time to pin them up!) I just love how they're all individual!

My cousin trekked down from the Blue Mountains with her two children for some summer sun, surf and sand!!! Luckily the Illawarra and Mother Nature put on a good show and we enjoyed a few beautiful mornings at our local off-leash dog beach!

The newest generation of our O'Brien clan!

Who doesn't love a little pampering and in-home shopping on a Sunday afternoon??? What is fast becoming an annual event, my At Home Body Shop party is proving popular, as you can try out some of the latest products, as well as some favourites, whilst sitting on the couch, beverage and treats in hand - when they're not being pampered!

I do love hosting such events, as it means I get to catch up with my lovely friends and family! A big thanks to Vanessa for hosting, and to my lovely cousin Louisa for helping me with all the preparation!

We managed a Santa photo this year!!! I didn't think it would happen as Lachlan would always retreat to behind our legs anytime the man in the red appeared, but Dad talked him into it and we got the elusive pic!!!

Today the boys and I headed to Macquaire Fields to catch up with our long-time friends at the local leisure centre, which has a fabulous splash zone!!! Needless to say we had a fabulous morning of running, jumping and splashing in the water which saw the boys crash out 15min into the car trip home!!!

I hope you've had had a good week! May the count down to summer holidays begin!!! What are you looking forward to in the final week of teaching?
